Data Visulisation Flashcards
What are line graphs used for ?
Line charts are used when you need to show the trend of an event over time.
What are scatter graphs used for ?
Scatter charts are useful for displaying the correlation between two variables or identifying a trend line or line of best fit.
What are bad charts used for ?
Bar charts are used for categorical variables and quantitative discrete variables where the height of the bar shows the frequency of the variable.
Bar charts may be vertically or horizontally orientated.
Use vertical bar charts when you’re graphing ordinal data.
Use horizontal bar charts when you’re graphing nominal data.
What are histograms used for ?
A histogram shows the frequency of numerical data using rectangles
What are pie charts used for ?
Pie charts show a parts-to-whole relationship for categorical or nominal data. The slices in the pie typically represent a percentage of the total
How to work out relative frequency ?
Observed frequency / total sample size and is shown as a bar chart
Frequency density formula for a histogram ?
Frequency / group width
What are the three categories of a gauge chart ?
