Prescriptive Data
data from a variety of both descriptive and Predictive sources for its models and applies them to the process of decision-making.
Data Set
A collection of related sets of information that is composed of separate elements but can be manipulated as a unit by a computer.
Qualitative Data
The information expressed in language
Example:
A company’s strategy
Comments and feedback
Stories
Machine Data
Generated by machines without human involvement.
Example:
Light sensors
Algorithms to determine risk
Transactional Data
Information that documents and exchange, agreement or transfer that occurs between organizations and/or individuals.
Reference Data
Used to structure and constrain other data.
Example:
List of state for a country
List of stars
List of stock tickers
Quantitative Data
Any data in numerical form
Primary Data
A data source you have collected yourself.
Example:
The measurement from scale or ruler
Personal interviews
Surveys
Source Data
Information that hasn’t been processed.
Unstructured Data
Information that isn’t specifically structured to be easy for machines to understand.
Example:
Artificial intelligence that uses language like Alexa or Google home
Email communications that detect SPAM
Analysis if x-ray images for signs of disease
Master Data
Information an organization can agree upon.
Example:
Stock tickers
Currency codes
Product specifications
Event Data
Information about change occurs at a point in time.
Example:
e-Commerce: when a site knows something was put into a cart
Pageviews on a website
When a camera detects it’s been dropped so it prepares for impact
Abstract Data
The design of data based on abstract concepts as opposed to physical realities. The term is associated with intuitive and easy to understand representation of complex data.
Example:
Weather forecast
Customer satisfaction rate
