Nominal Variables
a qualitative measure that uses discrete categories to describe qualitative differences.
examples:
types of pets: birds, fish, cats, dogs
gender, eye color, type of house…
Ordinal Variables
rank-orders participants on some scale or attribute.
the difference between numbers does not convey fixed or equal differences

the distance between pairs of consecutive numbers is assumed to be equal
