What is qualitative data?
A
non-numerical data that is used in a relatively unstructured and open-ended way. It is descriptive, and subjective.

What are 2 possible limitations of qualitative data?
A
- could be biased, making the source not representative and perhaps
- can be easily manipulated, so not an accurate representation of the place
- intended audience could make data unreliable (untruthful)

Why might qualitative data be useful in showing sense of place?
A
- interviews provide opinions held by insiders, these cannot be obtained by quantitative data
- artistic expressions show the artists sense of place (however, only one person’s perspective may be a misrepresentation)

Data that is numerical in nature, objective and easily represented in graphical form.
