What is the relevant act?
The data protection act 2018.
What does the act cover?
Personal data held on individuals and any opinion about them. Personal data being any data that may be used in order to identify you personally.
What are data controllers?
They determine the purpose and means of processing data.
What are data processors?
They actually process the data.
How soon must the office of the information commissioner be informed about breaches?
72 hours.
What are the penalties for breaching the act?
Criminal conviction and up to 20 mill euro fine.
What data is exempt?
Employee data, Academic data, Scientific and historical research data. e.g journalist notes, national security matters, Christmas card lists.
