What is an abstract?
A summary of the whole report
Although it goes at the beginning, write it last
Introduction
Introduce the reader to the experiment
Explain the reasoning behind doing it- what were you trying to find out?
What approach did you take?
What was your aim?
This should include details of what is already known about the topic
Method
What did you do experimentally
Must have enough detail that someone else could reproduce the experiment
Not written in the first person
Written in fluent prose, no bullet points
Write in past tense
Results
Figures/Tables- put your experimental results/ calculations in to figures and tables
Need a figure legend and a narrative text that describe your findings
Don’t put results in an appendix
Figure legend contains
Figure title goes into the figure legend
Technical details of how the experiment was carried out
Results narrative text

- Remind the reader exactly what was being investigated
- Describe the data shown in the figure-tell the reader what it is
- What is means to the experiment

Line of best fit/ curve of best fit
never choose line graph option
