Data collection Flashcards
What is Qualitative data & give an example
data received from participants answering open ended questions.
- Eg. What’s your opinion about eggs?
What is Quantitative data & give an example
data received from participants answering fixed response questions (rating scales or similar).
- Eg. On a scale of 1-10 how much do you like eggs?
List at least 2 strengths and limitations of qualitative data
Strengths:
-Creates rich, in depth data
-Allows participants to go in depth
-Opens up questioning avenues not previously thought of
Limitations:
-Lots of data = lots of time analysing
-Can produce lots of “junk” data
-Difficult to find conclusions/ correlations
explain the difference between Objective quantitative data & Subjective quantitative data
Objective quantitative data: Data based fixed response i.e. numbers & statistics
Subjective quantitative data: Opinion based fixed response, turned into data i.e. Opinion based fixed response, turned into data
List at least 2 strengths and limitations of quantitative data
Strengths:
-Data is easy to analyse & find conclusions/ correlations
-Easy to graph/ present
Limitations:
-Data may not be able to explain complex issues
-May leave out important secondary/ explaining data
Give at least 2 of Objective quantitative data
-Neural activity (brain activity)
-Heart rate
-Breathing rate
-Galvanic skin response (electrical conduciveness of the skin)
Give at least 2 of Subjective quantitative data
-Checklists and rating scales
-Likert scales
-Participants rate how much they agree with a statement.
-Usually from Strongly disagree, to Neutral, to Strongly agree.
