Data Caputre Flashcards
What is data capture
Data capture is the process of extracting information from paper or electronic documents and converting it into data for computers
Differnece between manual data caputure and automated data capture
Manual data capture uses manual keying of required
data from written forms into a computer for digitized access.
Automated data capture means obtaining data directly by an input device without using a keyboard.
Three main approaches to data capture
– Direct Data Entry
– Automatic Data Capture Methods
– The Data on a Form
What is a turnaround document
A turnaround document is produced by a computer, has more data added to it, and it is then input to the computer again.
Pros and cons turnaround document
Advantages: –
Data which is already known to the computer does not need to be written or keyed in again.
– The computer can recognise each individual document using information it has already printed on it.
Disadvantages:
– the meter reader may not read the number from the barcode.
– The turnaround document does not contain any instructions because the meter reader who fills it in will complete hundreds of similar forms every day
What is an input device
An input device is a peripheral which accepts data and sends it to the CPU
What is a concept keyboard
•Flat board with a grid of programmable keys on its surface.
Mention Input devices

Describe video digitizer
A video digitizer takes an image from a video camera or television and digitizes it so it can be read by, and stored on, a computer.
