what did doctors training include?
in the 1840s doctors attended lecture in illnesses and treatment, practical experience in hospitals, Midwifery experience, practical surgical experience. however all of these were very basic and not Advanced
how did they try and solve the problem of pain durning surgery in the 1840s
they tried to fix it by getting the patient black out drunk ( alcohol ) or a form of opium also they just knocked people out with a punch or two
why was Robert Liston regarded as one of the best surgeons of the 1840s
he was known as the ‘fastest knife in the west’ which lead to him having the highest survival rate of any surgeon. he also cut someones testicles off during surgery!!!
how did they try to stop blood loss in the 1840s? as it was a major issue in surgery at the time
they used tourniquets which would be used to stop heavy blood flow from arteries.

people died of infection after surgery as surgeons did not use sanitary instruments

what gas did William Morton discover?
Ether gas. it was stronger that nitrous oxide however it was highly flammable Robert Liston first used it during an amputation
