16
Q

How are maintenance records maintained?

A

MDS

17
Q

How are training records maintained?

A

DCA tracks and manages DC PQS for the entire ship.

18
Q

What is the DC closure log?

A

All ships are required to maintain a DC closure log to document any fittings opened in violation of the prescribed material condition.

19
Q

What kind of information is required in the DC closure log?

A

o Name, rate, and division of personnel requesting violation
o Type of fitting (nomenclature)
o DC number of fitting (tack number)
o Classification
o Date/time fittings are opened or closed
o Estimated length of time fitting is opened or closed
o Signature of person granting permission

20
Q

What kind of information does the DC watch log include?

A

The DC watch log includes reports of emergency conditions, readings of firemain pressure, Sounding and Security watch reporting, material security conditions, and material condition of readiness.

21
Q

When is a DC watch log not required?

A

If DCC is co-located in CCS and such information is already documented in the Engineering log, a separate DC log is not required.

22
Q

What is the Gas Free Engineer (GFE) log, and how is it maintained?

A

The GFE log contains all Gas Free Certificates issued in the last 12 months.

23
Q

What is the underwater hull inspection report, and when is it performed?

A

The underwater hull inspection report documents the findings from underwater hull survey and inspections. All surface ship hulls are inspected 18-24 months prior to a scheduled CNO docking avail. CVNs initiate hull inspections 18 to 24 months prior to refueling and complex overhaul, or prior to a CNO docking availabilities.

24
Q

What is the 3M program?

A

The 3M program is designed to ensure all equipment onboard a ship is maintained through a pre-planned specific set of procedures within a prescribed periodicity.

25
Q

What is the fleet COSAL feedback report, and what kind of information does it include?

A

The fleet COSAL FBR is used to report technical deficiencies found on AELs, to include:

o Part/item not listed on the AEL, but considered a maintenance-significant item
o Incorrect part/item listed on AEL
o Allowed quantity insufficient for PMS requirement
o Non-allowed part required for PMS
o The Source, Maintenance, and Recoverability (SMR) codes and allowance note codes on the AEL are not defined in any publication held.
o Suspected error in code assignments

26
Q

What is a docking report, and who prepares it?

A

When a naval ship, service craft, or floating dry dock is moved to a naval docking facility, a docking report is prepared by either the docking facility, a qualified naval representative, or Engineering officer depending on the docking location and/or availability of preparing authority.

27
Q

What DC bills are maintained in the DC library?

A
o	Battle Bill
o	General Emergency Bill
o	CBRN-D Bill
o	Rescue and Assistance Bill
o	Jettison Bill
o	Cold Weather Bill
o	Toxic Gas Bill
o	VBSS Bill
o	Darken Ship Bill
28
Q

Describe the Battle Bill

A

Assigns personnel to battle stations and battle watches.

29
Q

Describe the General Emergency Bill

A

Organizes, prescribes procedures, and assigns responsibilities to control the effects of a major emergency or disaster suffered by the ship (e.g., collision, grounding, internal and external explosion, CBR contamination, earthquake, storm, battle damage).

30
Q

Describe the CBRN-D Bill

A

Provides guidance to plan and train for appropriate actions in the event of attack. (DCA maintains under direction of CHENG)

31
Q

Describe the Rescue and Assistance Bill

A

Organizes qualified personnel to render emergency assistance to persons or activities outside the ship.

32
Q

Describe the Jettison Bill

A

Establishes procedures for jettisoning material to improve stability impaired by damage. (DCA maintains)

33
Q

Describe the Cold Weather Bill

A

Establishes procedures to prepare the ship for cold weather operations.

34
Q

Describe the Toxic Gas Bill

A

Specifies procedures and assigns duties/responsibilities for controlling and minimizing the effects of toxic gas within the ship. (DCA maintains)

35
Q

Describe the VBSS Bill

A

Establishes an organization and prescribes responsibilities/procedures for visiting and searching, boarding and salvaging, and placing a prize crew onboard ship on the high seas.

36
Q

Describe the Darken Ship Bill

A

Prescribes responsibilities and procedures to darken the ship, and establishes a material condition where no white lights will be visible from outside the ship. (DCA maintains under the XO)

37
Q

What other bills covered in this lesson are important for DCA to know? Include a short description of each.
