What was ancient Egyptian society like?
Ancient Egyptian society was layered like a pyramid. At the top was the pharaoh, who was considered both a king and a god, next was the vizier, the nobles, scribes and priests. Next were the craftsmen/artisans, then the farmers and workers, and finally there were the common people, peasants and slaves.
What were houses like in ancient Egypt?
Houses were made from mud brick, and nobles lived in great houses, and artisans, peasants and labourers lived in simple huts.
What was it like for women in ancient Egypt?
Women did not have the same rights as men, and were usually not taught to read or write, and there were not many careers open for them. In lower class families they were responsible for preparing food and caring for children, and in peasant families they also worked in the fields.
What were upper class women like?
A women’s rank in society depended on her husbands rank, but high status could also be achieved by the mother of a high ranking son. Wives and daughter of pharaohs and nobles led privileged lives with fine clothes and many servants.

Nobles ruled the religions in Egypt and were responsible for making local laws and keeping order in their religion.
What was the role of priests in ancient Egypt?
They were responsible for ensuring the earth and heavens remained as the gods created them.

Officials assisted the pharaohs in his or her role as supreme ruler of Egypt.
