DA42 Technical Specifications Flashcards
What are the dome shaped aerials directly on top of the cockpit?
GPS 1 and GPS 2
From front to back, what is the first ‘pointed’ aerial on top of the fuselage?
ELT
From front to back, what is the second ‘pointed’ aerial on top of the fuselage?
COM 1
What emergency equipment is available and where is it stored?
- Fire extinguisher: Behind co-pilots seat - First aid kit: Rear baggage area behind the seats - ELT: Switch on top right panel, transmitter rear fuselage below baggage, aerial on top of fuselage
How is cabin heating and canopy defrost provided?
- Air enters each engine nacelle through an air intake - The air is fed to a heat exchanger which warms the air using hot coolant - Air from the left exchanger is used for canopy defrost - Air from the right exchanger is used for cabin heating
Describe the DA42 power plant(s)
- Powered by two identical Thielert TAE 125 diesel engines - Four cylinders, four stroke - Liquid cooled - Turbo charged - Connected to the prop by a reduction gear box
Describe the DA42 fuel system
- Fuel is stored in 3 aluminium tanks in each wing - Fuel is measured using a capacitance style system with sensors located in the outer and inner most tanks - Fuel is delivered to the engine via a filter located at the rear of the engine nacelle - From the filter it is delivered to the engine via a low pressure pump which in turn delivers the fuel to the engine high pressure pump - Fuel at high pressure is then supplied to a common rail system connected to fuel injectors - Excess fuel is returned to the fuel system via a fuel cooler - Normally the left fuel tanks feed the left engine and the right feed the right engine - Switching to cross feed operates valves which close the feed from the normal tank and switch this to the opposite
How does the CSU control pitch (moving to fine or coarse)?
- CSU uses gearbox oil to control the pitch of the propeller - Oil pressure is used to move towards fine pitch - A spring and counter weight system helps move towards coarse pitch
Which direction does the centrifugal twisting moments of the propeller blades act in and what counters this?
- The centrifugal twisting moments of the propeller blades act towards fine pitch - The centrifugal twisting moments of counterweights act against this
How does the propeller unfeathering system work?
- The propeller is unfeathered using using oil stored under pressure in an accumulator charged with nitrogen gas - When the engine master is set to off this closes the accumulator shut-off valve, trapping the oil at system pressure - When the master is set to on, the accumulator shut-off valve is opened. The CSU directs the oil to the pitch control unit which moves the blades towards fine
How does the propeller feathering system work?
- When the appropriate engine master is selected to off, a governor switch is opened allowing oil to flow back from the PCU - The centrifugal twisting forces on the counter weights and the spring move the propeller towards the feathered position
When does the ‘Fuel Low’ caption display?
When there is only 3-4 US Gals remaining in the tank
What are the batteries on the DA42 (Voltages and Amp hours)?
- Main Battery: 24V 10Ah - 2x Excitation Battery: 12V 1.3Ah (for alternator excitement) - 2x Backup Batteries: 12V 1.3Ah (for ECU power) - Non rechargeable dry cell battery for standby attitude indicator
What is the type and voltage of the DA42 electrical system?
28V DC electrical system
What is the type voltage and ampage of the alternators?
28V 60A DC engine driven alterntors
How is the avionics system connected to the main electrical system?
The avionics busbar is connected to the right hand main busbar via the avionics master switch
How are the internal lights connected to the electrical system?
Connected to the LH main busbar
On a twin engine aircraft with multiple leavers per engine, what is the order they are operated to increase speed/power?
- 1: Richen the mixture - 2: Increase RPM - 3: Increase power
On a twin engine aircraft with multiple leavers per engine, what is the order they are operated to decrease speed/power?
- 1: Reduce power - 2: Reduce RPM - 3: Lean the mixture
