D6 Flashcards
Calculating percentages
W/W weight in weight = 1g in 100g
W/V weight in volume = 1g in 100 ml
V/V volume to volume = 1ml in 100 ml
How to measure viscous liquids
Weight = volume x density
Use weighting boat or beaker
Rinse container with vehicle
Dosing instruction for oral liquid medicines
5 ml spoon is standard measure
This can also mean the strength of the medicine is expressed per 5 ml
How to administer oral liquid medicines to young children
2 sided spoon ( small side is 2.5 ml)
Oral syringe ( must be directed towards the inside Of the baby’s cheek
How to prepare a solution
Step 1 : dissolve solids in a small volume of the vehicle
( use beaker and glass rod then add solution to conical flask with rinsing)
Step 2 add liquids , volatile first , do not rinse
Step 3 make up to volume and mix using glass rod
Step 4 pour into bottle mix again and label the bottle
How to prepare a suspensions
- Grind , sieve and weigh powders
2 . Make smooth concentrated paste
( by geometric mixing , add small volume of liquid , use shearing to make a smooth dispersion )
3.dilute the paste with liquids - Pour into calibrated bottle
- Add other ingredients
- Make up to volume
