What are the problems with powders

A

Ingredients can be coarse which leads to poor medicine stability
Ingredients can have different particle size which can lead to separation

How to minimise the issue with powders

A

Grind , sieve an excess of powder then weigh the amount needed and record the weight
Use geometric mixing

Geometric mixing

A

Grind the slightest excess of the ingredients with bigger particles
Sieve the ground powders 
Weigh the powders accurately
Place the ingredients of the smaller volume in the mortar
Add equal volumes of the other ingredient
Using the pestle mix gently until an even mixture is obtained
Repeat steps five and six until all ingredients are incorporated
