D3 Magnets Flashcards
Solenoid
is a coil of wire carrying an electrical current.
Hysteresis Loop
A curve formed by materials showing flux density as a magnetizing force is increased, decreased, increased in opposite direction, then returned to zero
Flux
Lines of force of a magnetic or electrostatic field
Coercive force
the amount of magnetizing force needed to remove residual magnetism
Permeability
A unit noting the ability of a material to establish lines of magnetic flux
Reluctance
the opposition of a material to establish magnetic lines of flux
How would one increase the amperage as the be readable by a clamp-on ammeter
By forming loops around one arm of the clamp and dividing the readout by the number of turns/loops
If you see a dot current is ___ and an X means current is flowing ____
Towards, Away Remember the arrow analogy, Feathers (x) shooting away
Tip (.) shooting towards
Explain the right hand rule
thumb points in the direction of the force
middle points in direction of current (. or X)
index points in the direction of the magnetic field
