d2 spring perio 2 exam1 Flashcards

1
Q

what is primary occlusal trauma?

A

primary occlusal trauma is when teeth experience heavy bite forces such that stress cracks, chips, wear occur. **NO loss of attachment.
2ndry o.t. occurs on reduced periodontium where Aloss has occurred.

1st and 2dry occlusal trauma can exist in the same px

Q

what is secondary occlusal trauma?

A

seconcardy occlusal truama is when there has been some periodontal Attachment loss and normal forces can no longer be tolerated. = results in mobility/ loosening.
(Aloss= loss of gingival attachment fibers/ periodontal ligament/ bone)
-1ry and 2ndry occ. truama can exist in the same px
-1ry occlusal truama is excessive force on healthy (no Aloss) periodontium

Q

what is the worst type of occlusal contact relationship?

A

cusp-to-cusp is the worse occlusal contact relationship. incline to incline is also bad. cusp-to flat area is good, and cusp to fossa is ideal.
