D1.2 Protein Synthesis Flashcards
1
Q
Three forms of RNA
A
- mRNA: messenger RNA, made as a strand that is complementary to one strand of the DNA molecule (template strand). It is a copy of the other DNA strand, other than Uracil.
- rRNA: ribosomal RNA and is found in ribosomes - decodes mRNA into amino acids.
- tRNA: transfer RNA carries amino acids to the ribosomes where they are bonded together to form polypeptides (long branch of amino acids linked by peptide bonds).

Q
First stage of gene expression (process of using gene information to create a protein)
A
Transcription:
- Production of mRNA using DNA as a template.
