How long can support vehicles be idled unattended?
2 minutes under non emergency conditions
You can leave the engine idling for:
Lighting, civilian hyperthermia, hydrant maintenance when it’s extremely hot or cold
Examples of bad idling:
After 4 minute cool down At base with lights on Inspections Cooling it off Safety chief at a drive through Working in a car when they could be in an office
Turbocharger cool down
They kick in at 1500 RPM and reach 300 degrees F
You need to cool down for 4 minutes or else they get up to
1500 degrees F
And boils it’s balls off
What do some engines after 2007 have?
Regen system
Describe a regent system on our engines:
Consists of an oxidation catalyst and a particulate filter. Carbon soot and ash are trapped in the filter and need to be burned off. CArbon reacts with Nitrogen dioxide and becomes carbon dioxide.
How long does the REgen process last?
20-40 minutes
