What is the mode of action for:

D042 - Droperidol
Dopamine antagonist - antipsychotic medication with sedative effects. Also blocks alpha-adrenoceptors
What are the Indications for:

- Moderate agitation or behavioural disturbance
- Nausea & Vomiting (AAV only)
What are the Contraindications for:
Droperidol

Nil
What are the Precautions for:
Droperidol
D042 - Droperidol
- Elderly / frail pts - more susceptible to adverse effects
- Parkinson’s disease - may worsen Parkinson’s symptoms
- Lewy body dementia - may experience inc in agitation
- QT prolongation (rare) - ECG monitoring required post-sedation
What are the Adverse Effects for:

- CNS: Oversedation, dizziness
- CVS: hypotension, tachycardia, QT prolongation
- Extrapyramidal symptoms (rare)
What are the Pregnancy and Breastfeeding considerations for:

D042 - Droperidol
Pregnancy: Administer only if benefits outweigh risk
Breastfeeding: Administer only if benefits outweigh risk. Droperidol is excreted into breast milk & monitoring of the infant is required.

16 years. Any younger requires AV Clinician consultation
What is the dose administered of:
Droperidol
D042 - Droperidol
5-10mg IM / IV
Repeat 5-10mg once only @ 15/60
5mg dose for <60kg/frail/elderly/sedation from drugs or ETOH/maintenance dose
RPT 5mg once only @ 15/60 for these pts.
Can you administere a Lewy body dementia or Parkinson’s disease?

Substitute IM / IV Midazolam instead
