1
Q
What are 3 common protective coatings?
A
Al2O3, chromium oxide, silicon dioxide
2
Q
Reaction of potassium with (cold) water?
A
Special points: lilac flame, UI purple, alkaline solution
3
Q
Why do universal indicator turns purple?
A
The hydroxides formed in all of these reactions dissolve in water to form alkaline solutions. These solutions turn universal indicator purple, showing they are strongly alkaline. Strong alkalis are corrosive .

A
yellow/orange flame, forms white solid
