1
Q

what should happen when using cyctoxoic drugs when pregnant or reproducing?

A

for cyctotoxic drugs they are teratogenic
-exclude pregnancy before treatment
-offer contraception advice to men and female

alkylating drug and procarazine
-permanent male sterility. Counsel patient on sperm storage
-women are less affected; early menopause may occur

Q

what are the clinical features of tumour lysis syndrome?

A

-hypERkalaemia, hypER urea, HypER PO4 and
hypO Ca2+
-this is followed by renal failure and arrhythmias
-at risk patients: renal impairment, dehydration and hyperuricaemia

Q

what are some mild emetogenics (agents that cause N+V)?

A

-methotrexate
-fluorouracil
-vinca alkaloids

16
Q

what are some moderate emetogenics (agents that cause N+V)?

A

-taxanes
-doxorubicin
-cyclophosphamide
-high dose mtx

17
Q

what are some high emetogenics (agents that cause N+V)?

A

-cisplatin
-high dose cyclophosphamide

18
Q

whats the treatment for nausea and vomiting?

A

-anticipatory (before treatment)= lorazepam
-acute symptoms <24hrs after chemotherapy = low risk of emesis, dexamethasone or lorazepam = high risk of emesis, 5-HT3 antagonist, aprepitant, dexamethasone
-delayed symptoms >24hrs after chemotherapy, moderately emetogenic drugs= dexamethasone + 5-HT3 antagonist, highly emetogenic drugs= dexamethasone + aprepitant

19
Q

is there any treatment for alopecia as a side effect of cytotoxic drugs

A

-no treatment

20
Q

what can happen due to extravasation of IV drugs?

A

-severe local tissue necrosis if they leak from the veins into the surrounding subcutaneous or subdermal tissue
-worse cases it can lead to amputation

21
Q

what are some examples of drugs that can cause extravasation?

A

-vinca alkaloids
-anthracyclines
