Cytoskeleton Flashcards
1
Q
Function of cytoskeleton
A
• Maintains the shape of the cell
• Provides mechanical support
• Involved in cell motility:
- attach itself to proteins in the plasma membrane, and together allows the cell to move along the fibres found outside the cell
- vesicles bordering ER travel along Golgi apparatus
- cytoskeleton controls cell membrane to form food vacuoles for phagocytosis
2
Q
Centrosomes and centrioles
A
- centrosome forms microtubules
- centrioles found inside the centrosome
- centrioles found at 90° with each other
- made up of 9 triplet microtubules
3
Q
Desmones, Gap Junction, Tight junction
A
Functions:
- Keep both cells close together (connected)
- Allows direct transport of small molecules between cells
- Closes off the environment of either cells to each other
Structure:
- membranes held together by complex proteins that come from disk in cytoplasm of both cells
- protein channels (connexion proteins) organised with regulated channel between cells
- Integral proteins which hold plasma membranes of both cells together
4
Q
Water is the basis for life
A
- Is used to form the membrane - hydrophilic and hydrophobic tendencies lead to the formation of bilayer
- Is the basis of the cytoplasm formation, which forms the overall shape of cells
- Involved on many chemical reactions in the cell (acts as solvent so that more polar solutes are able to diffuse into the cell)
5
Q
Microfilaments, microtubules, intermediate filaments
A
• Protein which composes it:
Actin; Tubulin; Various protein
• Thinnest, Thickest, Intermediate size
•
