What are the Pros and Cons of Scraping?

Collects only superficial cells
May reflect only a secondary bacterial infection/ inflammation
May hinder diagnosis of neoplasia
What are the Pros and Cons of Imprints?
Pros: Easy to collect
Minimal restraint
Cons: Few cells collected
Large amount of contamination
Reflects only a secondary bacterial infection/ inflammation
Hinders diagnosis of neoplasia
What are the Pros and Cons of Fine Needle Biopsy
Pros: avoids superficial contamination from cutaneous lesions
Easier to obtain cells from softer tissues
Cons: does not work well for solid tumors.
Wedge biopsy
Large variably sized specimen
Provides pathologist abnormal tissue, a transition zone and a normal zone (trimmed on its long axis)
