What are the Pros and Cons of Scraping?

A

Pros: Collection of many cells from firm lesions
Cons: Ouchy, more difficult to collect
Collects only superficial cells
May reflect only a secondary bacterial infection/ inflammation
May hinder diagnosis of neoplasia

A

Pros: Easy to collect
Minimal restraint
Cons: Few cells collected
Large amount of contamination
Reflects only a secondary bacterial infection/ inflammation

A

Pros: avoids superficial contamination from cutaneous lesions
Easier to obtain cells from softer tissues
Cons: does not work well for solid tumors.
