Cytokines Flashcards
IL-1
Endogenous pyrogen (osteoclast-activating factor). Causes fever, acute inflammation. Activates endothelium to express adhesion molecules, induces chemokine secretion to recruit leukocytes. Secreted by Macrophages
IL-6
Endogenous pyrogen. Secreted by Th2 cells. Causes fever and stimulates production of acute-phase proteins. Secreted by Macrophages.
IL-8
Chemotactic factor for neutrophils, produced by macrophages.
IL-12
T cells to Th1 cells. Activates NK cells. Secreted by Macrophages and B cells
TNF-alpha
Mediates septic shock. Activates endothelium. Causes leukocyte recruitment, vascular leak. Secreted by macrophages
IL-2
Secreted by T Cells. Stimulates helper, cytotoxic, Treg. Activates CD8 T cells.
IL-3
Secreted by T cells. Supports growth/differentiation of bone marrow stem cells. Functions like GM-CSF
IL-4
Secreted by Th2 cells. Promotes growth of B cells. Enhances class switching to IgE and IgG
IL-5
Secreted by Th2 cells. Promotes differentiation of B cells. Enhances class switching to IgA. Stimualtes Eosinophil recruitment.
IL-10
Modulates inflammatory response. Inhibits Th1. Secreted by Th2 cells and Treg cells.
TGF-B
Inhibits inflammation .
What are neutrophil chemotactic agents
1) Leukotriene B4 2)5-HETE (Leukotriene precursor) 3) IL-8, 4) C5a
