Ciprofloxacin
Fluoroquinolone
-Gram Neg: PSA, strep pneumoniae
Levofloxacin
Fluoroquinolone
-Gran Neg: PSA, strep penumoniae
Penicilin
-first line treatment for GAS (group A strep)
Cephalosporin
- 4 generations
- as go up in generations: decrease in gram positive and increase in gram negative coverage
Cefepime
- 4th gen cephalosporin
- GN: covers PSA
- less GP: covers MSSA and strep
Carbapenem
- resistant to lactamases => use against ESBL producing strains
- GP cocci including MSSA
- GNR including PSA
- ESBL GNR
- Acinetobacter
Ampicillin
- in cystitis/pyelonephritis use for enteroccus infxn
- covers MSSA and E. coli
Nitrofurantoin
- 1st line abx for acute uncomplicated cystitis
- Doesn’t achieve adequate renal tissue levels => don’t use in pyelonephritis
TMP-SMX
= Trimethorpim-Sulfamethoxazole
- first line abx for acute uncomplicated cystitis
- very effective if susceptible (20% of E. coli are resistant)
- Cover GNR except PSA
Gentamicin
= Aminoglycoside
-GNR: including PSA
1st Generation Cephalosporin
MSSA, GAS, E. coli, Klebsiella
3rd Generation Cephalosporin
