Recessive genes that a child inherits from both parents at conception
Physical impact
Lung/breathing problems due to mucus filling the lungs Digestive problems, hard to digest food Stunted growth May be infertile Reduced life span normally about 40 Nasal pollups Late in puberty Clubbed fingers
Intellectual impact
Miss out on school because of constant illness and many appointments
May effect their development
Emotional impact
Depressed due to being constantly ill and missing out on socialising Self conscious Embarrassed Stressed Anxious
Social impact
Ill a lot so find it hard to go out
May lose friends due to ignorance
Too unwell to go out or go to school
Financial impact
Missing out on school cam have long term effects, if they don’t have GCSEs or A levels they will find it hard to get a job lack job opportunities
If they have a job they will take time out for appointments or illnesses effecting pay
Cost in travel
Parents may have to quit job or take time off work
Education barrier
Lack of knowledge due to time off school
Miss out on education because of appointments and feeling ill
Employment barrier
Lack of education can effect grades so can be hard to get job
Limited job opportunities
May have to work part time
May lose job because off being off a lot
Societal barriers
Too ill to leave house
People can be ignorant
May be hard to make relationships due to discrimination
Economic barriers
Missing work/ not having a job can effect wages/ income
May have to rely on benefits due to limited job opportunities
Environment barriers
If bones weaken may effect how you can walk so may have little mobility effecting access to places
May need a wheelchair
Bullying risk
For being short (stunted growth)
For being late in puberty
Stress risk
Missing out on school meaning having to catch up on work
Abuse risk
Physically and verbally by bullies
Self harm risk
May hurt themselves due to depression
