What are cyclones?
1) A cyclone is a storm that develops over the sea.
2) A cyclone is a high-speed winds swirling around a low pressure - Centre. This low-pressure centre is eye of the storm or storm centre.
3) Cyclone are developed over tropical seas. Air heated by warm sun rises, creating a region of low pressure. Cold air rushes in, and so on, setting up a cycle or current of air.
They can cause damage to life and properties.
CYCLONES AND THEIR NAMES
1) The rotation of the earth drags this air current around the region of low pressure. This is how winds swirl around the centre.
2) Cyclones in the western Atlantic and eastern pacific are called HURRICANES, WHILE THOSE IN WESTERN PACIFIC ARE CALLED TYPHOONS.
By what name is Cyclone known in North America ?
It is called a ‘hurricane’ in the American continent.
By what name cyclone is known in Philippines and Japan
it is called a ‘typhoon’
The cyclonic storm occurring over the Caribbean Sea is known as-
HURRICANE
Cyclones are named based in the hemispheres, what are they?
In Northern hemisphere they are called hurricanes and typhoons like in America they are called Hurricanes and in Japan and Philippines, they are called typhoons. In southern hemisphere like near Indian Ocean like India they are called cyclones.
