Malware and types

Viruses work
Software replicates and transfers from one ocmouted to another and needs user interaction eg clicking of email
Trojan software
Gains access to software by pretending to be a legitimate software and provides a backdrop or access without user consent or awareness
Spyware
Records computer activity like keystrokes so can get passwords. Enable microphone or camera access
Adware
Banners and Pop ups that automatically install
No damages is caused but slow down performance of computer
Worm
Like virus but no need for human interaction so will spread automatically from computer to computer so more dangerous
Penetration testing (Pen testing)
Used to find any security weaknesses in a system
White box - tester is given basic info like IP addresses and network protocols (inside job)
Black box - very little or no previous info give (outside job)
Anti malware software
Prevents installation of harmful programs
Prevents important files such as Operating Systems being changed or deleted
Removes viruses
Automatic software updates
Patch loopholes and removes harmful code
