- Creates balance and harmony

- Can help to create focal points/hierarchy within a design

- Can be applied to an image to create rhythm and flow within a design
- Adds to visual interest and helps to guide the eye
- Can draw attention to certain design elements

A
- Provides structure and layout to a design
- Helps to emphasise a focal point
- Guides eyes around a page through a circular/radial pattern

A
- Space that is left empty
- Places greater emphasis on more important elements of design
- Adds breathing room in the design, helps to not overwhelm viewer

A
- Technique used to slow down or speed up the viewer, either reading or viewing the design
- Linked to rhythm, measures the speed caused by the pattern
- Eye-catching and large for fast, smaller font + organised for slow

A
- Areas of dominance/emphasis within a design
- Most dominant element
- Can be create via contrast/layout/alignment/colour/shape/negative space

- Used to place emphasis on certain images within a design
- Can be paired with reverse to create greater contrast + visual interest
- Used to simplify an image, focusing only on the shape
