Cvd Flashcards
What is the pq segment?
Impulse arrives at AV node and is transmitted through bundle of His and left and right bundle branches to pukinje fibres.
Atria relax
AV vas hat is QRS complex
AV valve close
Purkinje fibres transmit impulse to ventricular myocardium which causes ventricular contraction, pumping blood through semilunar valves which open
What is the t wave?
Ventricles repolarise and prepare for the next contraction.
AV valves open
What does the straight line on an ECG mean?
No electrical activity
Atria fill from vena cava and blood begins to flow through AV valves into ventricles
What are you at risk of if your have CvD?
Hypertension
How to manage high blood pressure?
Should be measured at every visit.
Advise lifestyle changes (dietary approaches to stop hypertension. DASH)
Reduce sodium
Increase potassium
What is coronary heart disease?
When the flow of oxygen rich blood to your heart is blocked or reduced by a build up of fatty material in the coronary arteries.
What’s the risks associated with coronary heart disease?
The coronary arteries are the two major blood vessels that supply your heart with blood. If these narrow because of a fatty build up this can cause angina and heart attack if becomes blocked.
Risk factors of CVD
Hypertension Smoking High blood cholesterol Diabetes Obesity Lack of exercise Family history Ethnic background
How to manage CVD
Regular reviews
Education on lifestyle I.e smoking eating exercise
What does pwave mean?
Impulse leave the SA node and transmits across the atria causing contraction of atria and pumping of blood into ventricles through AV valves which are open.
Semilunar valves closed
