CV Risk Assessment & Prevention Flashcards
1
Q
CVD Risk calculator
A
QRISK 2 calculator: used to calculate the 10year CVD risk of patients <84 years
- Patients with a score of 10% or more should be offered primary prevention
- Patients with a score less than 10% may benefit from lifestyle interventions and if necessary drug therapy
- CVD may underestimate risk in patients with additional risk due to existing medical conditions such as diabetes, CKD
2
Q
CVD prevention: Primary prevention is given to
A
- All type 1 diabetics
- Type 2 diabetics that also have CVD risk >10%, CKD, albuminuria, familial history of high lipid levels, >85 years ( to reduce their risk of non-fatal MI)
A statin (low dose atorvastatin) is recommended as the lipid lowering drug of choice for primary prevention of CVD
3
Q
CVD prevention: Secondary prevention is given to
A
- Patients with established CVD
A high intensity statin (which provides a reduction of >40% of LDL cholesterol). Typically high dose atorvastatin
