Cutaneous innervation of upper extremity and dermatomes Flashcards
How are dermatomes determined?
Cutaneous innervation from axons of more than one spinal segment, they stick together until that reach their final destination
Clavicle area
Supraclavicular nerves
armpit and branches out over medial arm
intercostalbrachial nerve T2
What is the intercostalbrachial nerve a branch of?
small lateral branch of the T2 intercostal nerve
Around deltoid
superior lateral brachial nerve (from axillary mostly C5)
Lower lateral arm
inferior lateral brachial nerve (from radial)
Lower medial arm
Medial brachial cutaneous nerve
Lateral anterior forearm
lateral antebrachial cutaneous (terminal branch of musculeocutaneous)
Medial anterior forearm
medial antebrachial cutaneous
posterior forearm
Posterior antebrachial cutaneous (branch of radial nerve)
Palmar thumb and lateral 2.5 fingers
digital branches of median nerve
Palmar medial 1.5 fingers
digital branches of ulnar nerve
Dorsal thumb and lateral 1.5 fingers
superficial radial nerves
Dorsal medial 2.5 fingers
ulnar nerve
What are the nerves for cutaneous innervation of upper extremity?
Supraclavicular nerves C3- C4 intercostalbrachial nerve T2 superior lateral brachial nerve C5 inferior lateral brachial nerve C5 -C8 medial brachial cutaneous nerve C8 -T1 lateral antebrachial cutaneous (C5-C7) medial antebrachial cutaneous (C8 -T1) posterior antebrachial cutaneous (C5-C8) digital branches of radial nerve (C6 -C8) digital branches of median nerve (C5-C7) digital branches of ulnar nerve (C8-T1) superficial radial nerves (C5-C8)
