CUT OFF SAWS Flashcards
Methods of cutting materials
Hacksawing, bandsawing, cold sawing, and abrasive sawing.
A basic machining process in which chips are produced by a succession of small cutting edges, or teeth, arranged in a narrow line on a saw “blade.”
Sawing
Is straight, relatively rigid, and limited in length, with teeth on one edge
Hacksaw blade
sufficiently flexible that a long length can be formed into a continuous band with teeth on one edge
Bandsaw
rigid disk having teeth on the periphery
Circular saws or Cold Saws
Common basic features
material, tooth form, tooth spacing, tooth, set, blade thickness or gage
Commonly used in the manufacture of saw blades
High-speed steel tungsten and High-speed steel molybdenum
Flexible blades used on bandsaws have only the ___ _____ hardened
saw teeth
has a straight tooth between one left and one right
raker set
For thin sections has progressive set, both directions
Wavy set
left, then right, is for better finish
Straight set
Has zero rake
Standard design
clears chips, cuts nonferrous
Skip-tooth blade
Hook tooth with 10* rake for large sections
Hook tooth
Saw blades are manufactured in various degrees of coarseness, ranging from ____
4 to 14 TPI (teeth per inch)
