What to do when start shift?
- Inspection of charge room, ensure everyone secured
- Cells clean, remove blankets, rubbish
- Look for damage
- Ensure have keys
- Check records previous shift
- Check alarems
ERISP and CCTV check - Face to face on all PIC
What to do if disagreement between CM and arresting/escorting Police on times etc?
Duty Officer.
What happens prior to strip search?
notify CM

If not aus citizen?
Inform them of right to contact consular official
Where put ATSI not child
If possible with another ATSI
Not alone unless not reasonable practicable
Where put ATSI child?
Only in cell in exceptional circumstances that make it necessary for their wellbeing.
Record on system.
Arrange for support person
Where put non ATSI children?
Not in cell unless;
- No other secure accommodation available and manager considers not practicable to supervise child unless put in cell
- If cell more comfortable than other alternative
- not in cell with another who not child unless exceptional circumstances for child’s well being
Whats a protected suspect?
Person in company of Police for purpose of participating in investigative procedure in connection with offence and;
- Informed can leave at will and
- Police officer believes sufficient evidence they have committed THE offence
What to do with a protected suspect?
- Enter on CMS
- Read part 9
- Don’t put in dock/cell
What should do when IP comes in?
Take reasonable steps to release into care of responsible person
Detention at station last resort
Reasons to take IP to Police station
- To find responsible person
- Can’t find one
- IP won’t go with them
- Behaving violently and resp person can’t care for them
If IP in custody and can’t find responsible person what must do?
Make ongoing inquiries
If any doubt with condition of IP?
Seek medical assistance
