Homework expands upon what is done during the day in the classroom. The educational experience is better, because homework helps students gain and retain more knowledge than would be possible with only classroom work.

The effect of homework is debated. Homework does not improve academic performance among children and may improve academic skills among older students. It creates stress for students and parents. Reduces the amount of time students spend outdoors. Parents complain their children are up late at night and find it difficult to help their children.

• Children should get 10 minutes of homework a night per grade. A first grader would have 10 mins per night and a 5th grader would have 50.
