CUrrent of electricity Flashcards
Current and charge eqn
I=QT
Current
the rate of flow of charge with respect to time
How charges move
Potential dff drive movement of charges
WHats emf
The emf of an electrical source is work done by source in dirving unit charge around a complete circuit
Formula for emf
E=W/Q
Whats PD
PD across a component in a circuit is work done to drive a unit charge thru the component. V=W/Q
Difference between emf and pd
emf convert other types of energy to electrical energy
pd convert electrical energy to other forms of energy
Whats resistance
Its the ratio of pd across it to the current flowing thru it
Formula to find resistance in conductor (NOT V=IR, THE OTHER ONE)
R =pl/A
Whats Ohms Law
It states that the pd across an ideal conductor is directly proportional to current thru it, provided temp and other physical conditions remain constant
Procedure to determine ressitance of metallic conductor
- Set up a circuit with rheostat
- Adjust rheostate to max resistant so a small current flow thur circuit initially for saftey precaution
- Record I and V
4> Adjust rheostat to allow a larger current to flow in the circuit. Record I and V again - Repeat step 4 for at least 6 sets of i and v readings
6 Plot a graph of V against I - Find gradient
