How do these FOOD SECURITY ISSUES affect the UK?

A
  • Many low income families cannot afford to eat healthily. They can’t afford cars to get to supermarkets. No healthy options nearby ( corner shops & takeaways )
    = food dessert
  • Food harvest & climate change can affect supply chains
  • We’re becoming too dependant on food from abroad which puts a strain on the overseas suppliers making us vulnerable to price increases & shortages

  • Increase in price affects the poorest the most
  • SUGAR/ CEREALS/ MEAT are no longer taken for granted
  • In 2008 prices of most CEREALS met record heights

  • Diet related health problems cost the NHS 6 billion a year
  • 70,000 deaths could be avoided if healthy guidelines were followed
  • Since 2000 government has introduced initiatives to encourage healthy eating ( improving school meals/ restrictions on broadcasting/ clear labelling on foods )
