Currency Requirments Flashcards
Requirements to remain current as a CPC holder ?
14 CFR §61.56 , §61.57
A) Within the preceding 24 months the pilot must have :
1- Accomplished a flight review given in an A/C for which that pilot is rated by an authorized CFI .
2- Received a logbook endorsement certifying that the pilot has satisfactorily completed the review .
B) To carry PAX , a pilot must have made , within the proceeding 90 days :
1- 3 T/OFFs and landings as the sole manipulator of flight controls of an A/C of the same CAT and class, if a type rating is required then of the same type .
2- For a tailwheel A/C the landings must have been made to a full stop .
3- If conducting operations at night ( 1 hour after sunset to 1 hour before sunrise ) , with PAX on board , the PIC must have made at least 3 T/OFFs and 3 landings to a full stop during that period in an A/C of the same CAT , class , and type .
Is a CPC holder required to log all flight time ?
14 CFR §61.51
Not all flight time need to be logged .
A pilot needs only to document and record aeronautical experience required for meeting the recent flight experience requirements of part 61 .
When logging flight time , what minimum information is required for each entry ?
14 CFR §61.51
General :
Date , total flight time , location of departure and arrival , FFS lessons or FTD and the location where the lesson occurred .
Type of pilot experience or training :
Solo , PIC , SIC , flight and ground training received from an authorized CFI , FFS AND FTD training received from an authorized CFI .
Conditions of flight :
Day or night , actual instrument , simulated instrument conditions in flight , FFS , FTD or aviation training device .
As a CPC holder , you obtain a job flying freight at night . Does your night currency count towards your currency to carry PAX during the day ? Elaborate ?
14 CFR §61. 57
Yes, provided that the landings at night were accomplished ( within the proceeding 90 days ) in the same CAT , class and type .
Explain the difference between currency and proficiency ?
Being current :
means accomplishing minimum FAA regulatory requirements within a specific time period to exercise the privileges of their certificate . Legal to make a flight
Being proficient :
A way of measuring the health of the skills that would be required to complete an intended flight . It goes well beyond the basic regulatory requirements for being current .
How will establishing personal minimums checklist reduce risk ?
Pre established hard numbers make a smart go/no go or divert decision than does a vague sense that you can probably deal with the conditions you face at any given time , so we need to establish our own personal minimums worksheet , faasafety.gov
How can FRAT ( flight risk assessment tool ) help pilots better determine risk factors relating to their proficiency and the conditions of an intended flight ?
The allow the pilot to evaluate a series of questions including both their personal experience and the conditions of their related flight ( PAVE model ) which is :
Pilot
A/C
enVironment
External pressures
How can flying an unfamiliar A/C increase the total risk of a flight ?
It poses a hazard with high risk potential to safety and efficiency .
I am currently en route to destination and the sun has set , when can I begin logging night flight time ?
14 CFR §1
Night : the time between the end of evening civil twilight and the beginning of morning civil twilight , as published in the air almanac and converted to local time .
what are the minimum currency requirements for a CPC holder carrying PAX and flying under IFR ?
14 CFR §61.57
24 calendar months : has had a flight review .
90 days : be current for PAX carriage in the CAT , class or type of A/C to be operated in day or night currency with more than 3 T/OFFs and landings conducted within it .
Have completed at least 6 instrument approaches , tracking and navigating .
6 calendar months : Hold or completed an instrument proficiency check within .
If a pilot has accomplished a proficiency check or added a rating to their pilot certificate within the preceding 24 calendar months , is the pilot still required to accomplish a flight review ?
14 CFR §61.56
The new pilot certificate or rating added satisfies the flight review requirement for all other certificates held by the pilot .
CPC , airplane , SEL ,MEL , if I was current to carry PAX in a multi engine airplane , am I also current to carry them on a single engine airplane ?why?
14 CFR §61.57
No, because the currency requirement require the pilot to conduct T/OFFs and landings in the same CAT, class and type ( if type rating is required ) of A/C .
