Give a simple definition of anonymity and what can cause a person to think that they are anonymous.
To have your identity hidden from others. People may not write their real name when asked or they might pretend to be someone else.
What can anonymity cause people to do?
When you are hidden behind a mask you might do things that you wouldn’t normally do for example a person might bully someone else online that they know but they would never do it in real life.
What can ISPs do about people cyber-bullying or harassing others?
ISPs have access to all internet traffic that goes through them and work closely with the police to stop people being bullied
What is meant by the digital divide and who does it affect?
The digital divide is a term used to describe how richer students have more access to technology in the home compared to poorer students. For example a poorer student might not have a computer at their home meaning that they got less time to revise and therefore they are more likely to do worse than if they had the computer at their home. Also the poorer student might feel depressed and may even get bullied.
What are some negative health effects on health on people that use technology too much
Their eyesight might become worse. people addicted to social media often show a stronger need for instant gratification and a reduced attention span.
What are some positive effects that computers have
They can be used to research diseases and can compute tasks that a human never could. Also they can work for humans
How can things like bullying be worsened by computer technology?
People can talk directly with others by SMS or social media, and so bullies can communicate 24/7 very easily with targets. Also, people may say things online which they would never in real life.
On the other hand, how can computer technology prevent bullying?
People who are bullies can be reported so that they can be stopped.
Which law in the UK allows intelligence agencies and police to access citizen’s internet activity?
The Snooper’s Charter.
Which law could be used to argue against the use of CCTV?
The data protection act. This states that data can only be collected if the subject gives permission, which the public do not directly give.
Which law is used to prosecute Cyber bullies and other internet harassers?
The communications act 2003.
What does the communications act 2003 state?
That no offensive communications of any means can be sent; if they are then the sender and any people who forward the message will be prosecuted.
