how much prestige or social standing a group/individual has
not necessarily linked to economic position
Roles
the behaviour expected of someone based on their status or social position
High Culture
cultural products or activities that are seen as a higher achievement so are given higher status
Popular Culture
cultural products and activities enjoyed by the majority of a population
Consumer Culture
culture focused on the purchase and consumption of goods
dept associated with excessive consumption regarded as ‘normal’
Global Culture
cultural products and activities becoming shared across different cultures and countries
Globalisation
societies becoming increasingly interconnected
Subculture
smaller group of people within a wider culture who share distinctive norms & values
