There are cultural aspects to health and illness
USA has over 100 different ethnic groups over 400 tribes of Native Americans Census changes reflect a decrease in Caucasians with increases in all other ethnic groups
Race
Class or kind of people unified by a community of interest, habits, or inherited physical characteristics
Culture
the unifying beliefs of any group of people of similar religion, values, attitudes, ritual practices, family structure, language, or social organization
Ethnicity
A cultural group’s sense of identification associated with the group’s common social and cultural heritage
Disease vs Illness
***Both are culturally defined
Disease- disorder or change in normal body structure or function
Illness-subjective state where the person feels unwell
Health

The general condition of the body or mind
= more than the absence of disease
