- African slaves-> cotton +tabaco plantations = AA poor but owners are rich

Why did America want a ‘return to normalcy’?
-1920- many A’s= frustrated Post war USA public= worried USA might get dragged into euro war
- bc of Wilsonian internationalism = unpopular -> period of isolationism= stay out of world affairs

eco= more ppl willing to take risks w/ money - banks willing to loan ppl more freely+ investing in stock market -> values of stock and shares increased

b/c could produce in just 1.5 hrs by 1913 + price dropped to $285= affordable in urban areas/ single color and engine size ->fewer parts needed= cheaper/ Late 1920’s = assembly line bought work to worker= more efficient + produce car every minute

Cultural and Economic changes for women.
Eco= paid 50% of men’s wage/ only 10% of women had an education h/w couldn’t enter into prestige’s colleges such as Harvard for medicine/ if women = pregnant-> potentially sacked-> decrease in job productivity
Cultural changes
- flappers -> flouted social norms by wearing short skirts, drinking, smoking/ mostly middle class women h/w there were little no. which meant that there was no significant influence on society and most women at the time wanted to stick to their traditional role
Impacts of Women suffrage?
Aug 18th, 1920-> 19th Amendment -> gave US women the vote
Immediate effect= had tow in women’s vote now by caring for prohibition, child health, public skls.
For example, Sheppard-Towner Act (1921)= govt funded maternity + child care ->creation of 300 children and maternal health centers-> decrease infant mortality 76.2 deaths to 67.6 deaths
