Cubital Tunnel Syndrome Flashcards
What is the most common site of entrapment in cubital tunnel syndrome?
Between the two heads of FCU is most common; also can be entrapped at arcade of Struthers (hiatus in medial intermuscular septum) and btw Osborne’s ligament and MCL
Where does the ulnar nerve enter the posterior compartment of the arm?
8cm proximal to the medial epicondyle
Describe Froment sign?
compensatory thumb IP flexion by FPL during key pinch; adductor pollicis is weak d/t ulnar neuropathy
What advantage if any does ulnar nerve decompression in situ have versus transposition?
Equal results with less complications
Cubital tunnel syndrome is caused by compression of the ulnar nerve between what two structures as it passes posterior to the medial epicondyle?
Osborne’s ligament and MCL
Which Struther’s structure is involved in ulnar n. compression?
Arcade of Struthers; point at which ulnar nerve pierces the medial intermuscular septum to travel from the anterior to posterior compartments as it moves distally;
Ligament of Struthers is a fibrous band extending from the supracondylar process of the humerus to the medial epicondyle which can cause compression of the median nerve.
