A

A foil is two characters specifically contrasting each other.

A

They both want money, they both want revenge but to different degrees. neither had a good upbringing. Tom=Joe’s mirror image. Joe says muff potter is guilty, Tom proves him innocent. Huck and Tom get treasure injun joe dies, and they take over the hideout.

A

The characters in this book are very superstitious. When superstition doesn’t work they say it’s witchcraft. Superstitions are often used instead of good explanations. The graveyard is very superstitious ghosts, warts, dead cats… ect. for examples of superstition see February 25 Notes

A

In the Phantom Tollbooth things that are states of mind are physical and literal things. The doldrums represent boredom and so on… The sea of wisdom gets Tock and Milo wet because they learn from it but the humbug stays dry because he heard wisdom but didn’t recieve it.
