CTB week 2 Flashcards
skin purposes
protection from mechanical trauma, bacterial, viral, fungal, prevents dehydration, reg of body temp, innervated=sensory role respect to pain, vitamin D synthesis. epidermis=keratinized stratifies squamous
dermis= connective tissue with blood vessels, glands, nerves, hair roots
deep is subcutaneous connective tissue/hypodermis/superdicial fascia=loose connective tissue
epidermis
5 layers-stratum basale, stratum spinosum, stratum granulosum, stratum lucid, stratum corneum
stratum basale
most base layer cuboidal/columnar . frequent division to renew skin-clearly metabolically active.presence of ER and golgi. attached to basement membrane by hemidesmosomes. express keratin 5 and 14
stratum spinosum
pickle cell layer-cells seem to have thorns. flattened polygonal shape, distinct ovoid nucleus, extensive network of intermediate filaments adhered at desmosomes
stratum granulosum
flattened keratinocytes. appear dark from keratohyalin granules. involucrin toughens membrane and adds strength
stratum lucidum
(transparent layer) dead cells, nucleus not visible
stratum corneum
outermost layer, composed of flat polyhedral plate-like envelopes filled with keratin filaments cross linked with filaggrin=forms cornfield cell envelope
Melanocyte
phagocytksed
Langerhans Cells
involved in immune response
eccrine
sweat gland
bulge
stem cell niche for hair follicle
fibro
connective tissue
chondro
cartilage
osteo
bone
connective tissue
cells separated by extracellular matrix(structural elements, ground substance
