What does the ‘Designated person Police Reform Act 2002’ mean?
Enables Chief Constables to designate any person under their control to carry out certain tasks or roles that previously would have been carried out by police officers.
What do the PACE codes of practice cover? (6)
- Stop and Search.
- Arrest.
- Detention.
- Investigation.
- Identification.
- Interviewing detainees.
What does S.8 of PACE allow an officer to do? (2)
- Apply and execute search warrants.

What does the Police Reform Act 2002 give you?
Powers for designated officers to search premises after an arrest under S.18 of PACE.

- Any vehicle, vessel, aircraft or hovercraft.
- Any offshore installation.
- Any renewable energy installation.
- Any tent or movable structure.
What is an item of Legal Privilege?
Items that usually take the form of documentation, and could be a letter from a detained person’s solicitor.
When can you seize an item of legal privilege?
When the item or information cannot reasonably be separated from any evidence to be seized e.g. fingerprint in blood.
What does the Police Reform Act give?
Designated detention officers the same powers as a constable in respect of photographing a suspect.
