What accreditation is required to be a CSEP-CPT?
A
A CSEP-CPT is a professional with the equivalent of 2 years of full time university/college course work in specific core competency areas related to exercise sciences.

Who can a CSEP-CPT work with?
A
- An apparently healthy individual
OR - Someone with a stable health condition who can
- Exercise independently

In order to have a stable health condition, what criteria must be met?
A
- Client is being medically managed & is asymptomatic
- Client is not experiencing difficulty controlling the condition with medication (if prescribed)
- The benefits of exercising clearly outweigh the risks

What does being able to “exercise independently” mean?
A
A client can be mobile on their own without any assistance from another person.

What are the 4 main objectives that a CSEP-CPT performs with a client?
A
- Conducts basic pre-participation health screening, and gathers info about their physical activity and lifestyle choices.
- Administers various fitness assessments including sub-max aerobic fitness, MSK fitness and anthropometry.
- Gathers all above info to design, implement and monitor sub-max exercise programs for healthier living.
- Recognizes own areas of expertise and refers clients who fall outside of that to another appropriate health care provider.

What is outside the Scope of Practice for a CSEP-CPT?
A
- Using an ECG for any purpose
- Utilizing or designing programs that involve MAXIMAL aerobic/anaerobic effort.
- Assessing muscular strength with 1RM protocols or designing programs based on resistance loads higher than 90% of clients predicted 1RM
- Administering, designing, implementing or monitoring client-tailored exercise prescription strategies for clients with unstable, or more than 1 medical condition.
