What are the purposes of Child Study Committee?

A

It is a school-based team where a teacher will meet with them to review a student and discuss the nature of the student and what possible modifications can be made before possible placement in special education

What is the role of RTI in the assessment process?

A

RTI helps the teacher to provide supports to the student and see if they just need some help with learning, if RTI is not working then the student will begin to be referred to special education services

A

School records, prior academic achievement, prior test scores, group standardized achievement test results, attendance records, prior teacher reports, group IQ test information, prior teacher referrals, medical history in the school nurse’s office, student work

Why is it important to rule out vision, hearing, medical, economic, cultural, and environmental issues during the pre-referral process?

A

Because the student may not have a disability, they may just have a difficulty hearing or seeing in the classroom or have problems at home that are causing them to struggle in school
