Q

mitochondria

A

It is the site of ATP production (provides them to ribosomes) by aerobic cellular respiration to provide a cell with energy. (use of oxygen to break down food molecules).

Q

Rough Endoplasmic Recticulum

A

a large network of intracellular channels that is involved in the transport and modification of the proteins. It is called ‘rough’ because many ribosomes are located on it.

Golgi Apparatus

A

a stack of flattened membrane sacs that are involved in the modification of proteins, and their transport out of the cell by exocytosis.

Q

Cell Wall

A
  • a rigid cellulose layer on the outside of a plant cell
  • provides resistance to the turgor pressure created by osmosis and the plant structure.
  • The cell wall is not actually an organelle.
