Crystallisation Flashcards
Crystallisation is used to obtain a ____________ from a solution
pure soluble solid
(Step 1.)Heat the (sugar etc)solution until a ___________ is obtained [Crystallisation]
hot, saturated solution
(Step 2.)Allow the hot, saturated solution to _________[Crystallisation]
cool for crystals to form
(Step 3.) _____the mixture to _______the (sugar) crystals as the residue and water as the filtrate[Crystallisation]
Filter, collect
(Step 4.) _____ the (sugar) crystals with a __________[Crystallisation]
Wash, little cold distilled water
(Step 5.) ____ the (sugar) crystals ________[Crystallisation]
Dry, between sheets of filter paper
Describe the process of crystallisation:
Step 1. Heat the (sugar) solution until a hot, saturated solution is obtained.
Step 2. Allow the hot, saturated solution to cool for crystals to form.
Step 3. Filter the mixture to collect the (sugar) crystals as residue and (water) as the filtrate
Step 4. Wash the crystals with a little cold distilled water
Step 5. Dry the crystals between sheets of filter paper
